The Imperial College India Foundation Scholarships will offer two fully-funded Master’s scholarships and one PhD scholarship for students residing in India in 2014. The scholarship funding is aimed to help talented Indian students in need of financial support. The funds will be provided by the alumni, the supporters of the Foundation and the College itself.
Funded students will be given access to academic training and support to help them contribute to society, industry and academia upon their return to India.
Raj Singh, a Kanpur resident has become the first Indian student to hold the Imperial College India Foundation PhD Scholarship. Singh will study Mechanical Engineering at Imperial later this year.
Cyrus Mistry, chairman of Tata Sons is Imperial alumnus and also sits on the board of the Imperial College India Foundation.
The scholarships allow Indian students to benefit from the opportunities and educational experience afforded by studying at Imperial.
The new scholarship scheme comes as Sir Keith O'Nions, scientist and Imperial’s current president pays a 11-day visit to India in January 2014. On his visit, O'Nions will host an alumni event in Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi and meet government, industry, and higher education professionals.
