India’s hopes for a gold or silver medal at London 2012 Olympic Games’ badminton event were crushed as ace Saina Nehwal lost to world number one Wang Yihan in the badminton semifinals on August 3.

But the Indian shuttler still keeps India’s hopes for a medal in badminton alive as she has a chance to win a bronze in the play-off against another losing semi-finalist on Saturday, August 4.

China’s Yihan beat fourth seeded Nehwal in a 21-13 21-13 score to secure a place in women’s badminton singles finals at London 2012 Olympics.

Nehwal, 22, earlier beat Denmark’s Tine Baun to qualify for the semi-finals and raise India’s hopes for a medal win at London Olympics. Nehwal historic win made her the first badminton player from India to reach the semifinals of the Olympics.
