Red Bull dominates Indian F1 Grand Prix pole position with Vettel first, Webber second

The Indian Formula One Grand Prix 2012 race at Buddh International Circuit in Noida gets underway as Red Bull’s two players Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber hold first and second place in the pole position in the second practice.

On Sunday, Vettel clocked 1:26.221 seconds to secure the pole position. He was marginally ahead of Webber who took the second place with his 1:26.339, just 0.118 second behind. The third place at the pole was occupied by world F1 champion Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who clocked 1:26.820.

Britain’s F1 drivers and Lewis Hamilton and team mate Jenson Button, both McLaren drivers couldn’t qualify in the first five spots. Hamilton was sixth at the pole with a score of 1:27.131, about 0.910 slower than Vettel. Button was right behind at seventh spot with his 1:27.182.

Ahead of the British drivers were Nico Rosberg (4th) and Kimi Raikkonen (5th).

Meanwhile, Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg – who had all the eyes on him at the Indian F1 Grand Prix, took the eight spot after clocking 1:27.233 seconds.

India’s Jaypee Group that built the 5.14km long Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida will see London 2012 Olympics shooting champion Gagan Narang wave the flag.

The Buddh Circuit is likely to be adorned by superstars from the sports and Bollywood planets including actors Hrithik Roshan, Ajay Devgn, Sonakshi Sinha and Arjun Rampal.

From the sports world, tennis sensation Sania Mirza along with her husband Shoaib Malik, Pakistani cricketers are likely to be there too.

Sports minister Ajay Maken is also likely to be present at the Indian GP event on Sunday.
