It is no surprise that the Tata conglomerate is the top Indian employer in the UK. Other Indian businesses making waves in Britain include Essar Group, Coxs & Kings, HCL Technologies and Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation.
India is the fifth largest investor in the UK with Indian businesses investing in technology, pharmaceuticals and telecoms sectors. While London was identified as the hottest base for Indian companies, areas in North and Midlands were also popular.
The findings were revealed in a report by Grant Thornton which identified the fastest-growing Indian companies. It found that that there are currently over 700 Indian-owned businesses in the UK, collectively employing more than 100,000 individuals locally.
"In light of sluggish growth potential in India, investors are increasingly eager to enter, or scale up their UK operations as the British economy re-enters a growth phase," said Grant Thornton's Anuj Chande.
The report was launched by Ranjan Mathai, High Commissioner of India to the UK.
