“Breaking news! We finally have the rights to Superstar Rajinikanth's Kochadaiyaan (Tamil) with music by @arrahman,” read Sony Music’s official Twitter page.
Rajini’s Kochadaiyaan is directed by his 27-year-old daughter Saundarya Ashwin and features an ensemble cast including Bollywood’s Jackie Shroff and Deepika Padukone and Tamil actors R Sarathkumar, Nassar, and Shobana.
The film will be dubbed in Telugu and will be released in other languages including Hindi, Malayalam, English and Japanese. Sony Music has acquired the rights for the Tamil version, according to its Twitter post.
Composed by music maestro AR Rahman, Kochadiyaan’s soundtrack includes a theme song by the superstar himself. Vairamuthu is the lyricist for the Tamil version of the film. The theme song for the Hindi version too was sung by Rajinikanth and was recorded in London in March 2012.
The release data for Kochadaiyaan is not confirmed yet although it is reported that the film’s release will coincide with the superstar’s 62nd birthday (December 12). In addition to cities in India, the film is likely to have special screenings in London and Los Angeles.
While the plot of Rajini's film is not yet clear, Kochadaiyaan is a term used to describe Lord Shiva in Hindu mythology. Kochadaiyaan also refers to a seventh century Pandya king called Kochadaiyan Ranadhiran who fought battles against the Chola dynasty.
