India levels ODI series after trouncing England in second match
India won the toss and elected to bat. After a lacklustre start from opening batsmen Ajinkya Rahane and Gautam Gambhir -- both were knocked out in quick succession in the first two overs -- the Indian team gathered momentum.
The middle order comprising Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja delivered a power-packed performance with 6 smashing sixes between them. India ended its innings with Jadeja scoring a stunning 61 runs off 37 balls.
Jadeja reached his half-century in 35-ball and then scored 10 more runs from last two balls including a smashing six.
Much was dependent on England’s batsman Ian Bell who has delivered match-winning centuries in his India tour. But Bell was dismissed by Indian captain Dhoni and bowler Shami Ahmed robbing England of their hope to win the second ODI too. England’s batting order struggled against India’s confident bowlers including Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jadeja and Ahmed.
England were all out for 158 runs in 36 overs resulting in India registering a whopping 127-run victory.
England’s captain Alastair Cook said: “We gave away 100 runs in the last 10 overs and that cost us. I think 240-250 was gettable. We got out-skilled and outplayed today. It's 1-1 now and all to play for. Credit to India. They put pressure on us.”
India’s Jadeja was declared the Man of the Match for his overall efforts.
