July 31st Update: Londoners can celebrate the 2017 Indian Independence Day at The Bhavan in London on Thursday, August 3rd 2017 from 6:30pm onwards. The Chief Guest for the celebrations will be His Excellency Mr Yashvardhana Kumar Sinha, the High Commissioner of India. The event includes speeches, cultural programmes and snacks. 36-year-old Indian-origin man Navinder Singh Sarao who was billed as the 'Hound of Hounslow' for manipulating the US stockmarkets has now admitted his crimes. The Indian-origin trader who pocketed $40m (£27m) was arrested in April 2015 for being partly responsible for the 'Flash crash' of May 2010. He has now pleaded guilty to fraud in a US court. The smog in Delhi on November 2, 2016, just days after Diwali celebrations has been rated as the ‘worst smog case in 17 years’ by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE). Navratri 2016 is here - so glam up in traditional colourful ghaghras and pull out those dandiya sticks! Celebrated from October 1st to 10th, this year too UK Indians are reveling in the magic of garba and dandiya in London. The UK's most traditional (and colorful) garba event – Navrangi Navratri 2016 - has kicked off at Brent Civic Centre, opposite Wembley stadium. Greater Manchester Police has launched an investigation into Coronation Street actor Marc Anwar for hate crime following his tweets against India. Many on Twitter billed Anwar’s tweets against India on recent Kashmir attacks as offensive, anti-racial and abusive triggering the police probe. Read more
