Ace shooter Vijay Kumar gives India its first London Olympics silver

LONDON – On Friday, August 03, India’s rifle shooting champion Vijay Kumar gave India its first silver medal at London 2012 Olympics with his performance in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol competition

Vijay shot a series of 5, 4, 4, 3, 4, 4, 4 and 2 in the final. Kumar’s victory comes just after another ace marksman, Joydeep Karmakar, narrowly missed the bronze medal earlier on Friday in the 50m rifle prone. Karmakar finished fourth in the competition.

Kumar’s medal is India’s second medal so afar at London 2012 Olympic Games which began on Saturday, July 28 after an £27m opening ceremony on July 27, directed by British film-maker Danny Boyle.

Earlier on Monday, rifle ace Gagan Narang gave India its first medal of the Games by winning a bronze in the 10m air rifle competition.
