Toilet – Ek Prem Katha is a unique love story between a simple man Keshav (Akshay Kumar) and a progressive lady Jaya (Bhumi Pednekar) who becomes his wife. The story is set in two villages near Mathura.
The film is a satirical take on a battle against the age-old tradition of open defecation in the country. It shows how, to win over his love (wife), Keshav has to fight against all societal and patriarchal odds to build a toilet indoors, so women can have privacy. As he sets out to achieve this, he faces several hurdles from local panchayat corruption to lack of support from family members to superstitions. Will he succeed?
The film releases on August 11, 2017, just before Independence Day 2017 and features Akshay Kumar for the first time with Bhumi Pednekar. Directed by Shree Narayan Singh, Toilet – Ek Prem Katha also stars Anupam Kher and Sudhir Pandey and Shubha Kothe.
