Indian capital New Delhi has become the destination for British Airways' first scheduled flight on its new 787-9 Dreamliner. The British High Commission helped the British airline celebrate the first landing of its new Dreamliner at IGI Airport in New Delhi today, Monday October 26th with a reception party.

The reception involved BA clients and customers, business leaders and Bollywood personalities. The party followed a theme of a dummy check-in counter with two BA boarding staff handing the guests boarding passes with their names printed on it. The stub of the boarding pass will be retained for a prize draw where one lucky guest will win two BA business class return tickets from Delhi to London.

“I am delighted that British Airways chose Delhi as the maiden destination for its stunning new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. Tourism and trade between the UK and India booming, and the UK hosts a huge and vibrant Indian diasporta, so no wonder  India is British Airways’ second largest market outside the UK.  We’re confident that traffic between our two great nations will continue to expand at a rate of knots,” said St.John Gould, India Director, UK Trade and Investment

BA's head of Asia Pacific sales, Robert Williams said that making Delhi the first destination for its new and prestigious Dreamliner aircraft reinforces UK's strong focus on India as a market. India is already the second largest position for BA globally, after the US and outside the UK.

The 787s are the most technologically advanced aircraft in British Airways’ fleet. The Boeing 787-9 boasts a unique First Class cabin housing eight seats, compared to the usual 14; extra storage space and a single dial to control seat recline, headrest, lumbar adjustment and lighting. It also features a larger screen on which to enjoy the latest films and TV programmes, as well as new touchscreen handset.
