Bollywood’s first family – the Bachchans – came together on Saturday to raise money for Plan India charity's Girl Child Campaign. Megastar Amitabh Bachchan and wife Jaya alongside Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan together raised 25-lakh rupees.

The Bachchans raised the money through the sale of paintings and a book unveiled at a special exhibition by Amitabh Bachchan on his 70th birthday in October 2012. The sum of 25-lakh rupees was donated to the charity organisation Plan India and will be used for their Girl Child Campaign.

Plan India works for the development of children deprived of fundamental needs such as education and other social needs.

On Amitabh’s 70th birthday, the star released a book “B70” containing 70 paintings by prominent artists of India on what they think of and how they interpret Amitabh Bachchan.

On Saturday, February 9, the Bachchan family was seen together sharing laughter at the event and were all dressed in white with senior Bachchan wrapping a shawl around his shoulder. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan were both wearing white salwar kameez with minimal makeup while Abhishek was wearing white kurta.

The couple’s baby daughter Aaradhya Bachchan was not seen at the event.

“Normally, I do not announce charity, but this issue was important keeping recent happenings against women,” said Amitabh Bachchan on Twitter on Saturday. The actor may be referring to the brutal gang-rape of the 23-year-old Delhi student ‘Nirbhaya’.

“Family had committed that sale of book of 70 paintings by prominent artists of India, released by us, would go to Plan India ...done,” he added on Twitter.

In addition to the 25-lakh rupees, further sales of B70 which is in stores will also go to Plan India, Amitabh Bachchan said. He shared the pictures of himself, Jaya, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on his official Facebook page
