Bollywood superstar and respected actor Amitabh Bachchan turns 70

Veteran and well-respected Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan celebrates his 70th birthday on Thursday, October 11 with his family members including Jaya, Abhishek, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, daughter Sunaina and grand-daughter Aaradhya Bachchan.

Just a day before his birthday, Amitabh Bachchan an avid tweeter said: “The family prepares an evening for me and I am overwhelmed .. I come in early just to express my gratitude and love again .. Thank you,” on Twitter.

He added: “Birthdays are special for all .. mine is no different for tomorrow .. but would never be the same without your love and affection”

According to reports, the birthday bash was a glamourous affair featuring Bachchans’ close friends and relatives including industrialist and family friend Anil Ambani, director Yash Chopra, and lyricist Javed Akhtar among others. Director Karan Johar was the Master of ceremonies, it is reported.

The ceremony included talent performances including a touching performance of Abhishek Bachchan’s father Harivanshrai Bachchan’s poetry.

The guests paid a tribute to the actor and there was a traditional cake-cutting ceremony followed by a sumptuous food-spread.

What made the occasion even more special was Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan’s daughter Aaradhya making an appearance in a baby pink frock and a hair bow. Aaaradhya Bachchan -- who Amitabh Bachchan refers to as Bitiya B -- is 11-month-old and celebrates her first birthday next month.
