Navratri 2015 in London: UK Indians recreate Dandiya Raas magic for 9 evenings at Greenford Hall

Navratri – the festival celebrating Hindu goddess Durga – is an important festival in India celebrated for nine evenings closing with Dussehra on the tenth day.

This year Navratri falls between Tuesday October 13th to Wednesday, October 21st and London Indians are celebrating by recreating the dandiya and raas garba magic at Greenford Hall for all nine evenings.

Organised by events company Red Lotus, the nine-night traditional garba dance Navratri 2015 event in Greenford is themed Navrangi Navratri and it will feature authentic Gujarati music from talented singers called in from Rajkot. Indian musicians include Pritee Varsani and Ashish Dave and headline sponsors include reputed Indian businesses such as Jalaram Food, Jaysam, Kings Kitchen, Corrundum, Kalika Hair and Beauty, Skylink and ITEC among others.

Keeping up with the Indian Navratri celebrations tradition, the Greenford Hall Navrangi Navratri event will begin sharp at 8pm with gates opening at 7.30pm to accommodate family needs, the organisers have made the event free for children under the age of 6 years with a daily charge of £3.50 per adult Sunday to Thursday and £5 on Friday and Saturday nights. The organisers are also making available a full pass for £30.

Every year, UK Indians glam up in their traditional Gujrati outfit and ornaments and bring their ornamental dandiya sticks to perform the traditional raas garba dance to traditional music as well as contemporary Bollywood garba songs. They also perform Durga Pooja, aartis and have maha prasaad organised by the sponsors.
