Indian-origin Ranjit Boparan aka Chicken King tops UK Asian Rich List for Midlands

British Asian business tycoon Ranjit Singh Boparan has topped the UK Asian Rich List for the Midlands region in 2015. Boparan, who is nicknamed Chicken King for his successful poultry business in the UK has an estimated wealth of £1.35 billion.

Ranjit Boparan, a resident of West Midlands is the founder and owner of 2 Sisters Food Group, In 2015, his net worth increase by £50 million compared to 2014. He, along with wife Baljinder Boparan, topped the Asian Rich List – Midlands, published by the Asian Media & Marketing Group (AMG), for a second consecutive year.

Central England area is termed Midlands and includes Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Bedfordshire etc.

Boparan Holdings is the group company, which owns all of Ranjit and his wife's subsidiary holdings. The couple are known for their high standards of animal welfare and food safety among their partner companies and suppliers to make it to the top.

NRI industrialists Lord Swraj Paul and his son Angad, whose Caparo Group has significant business presence in the Midlands region, were ranked second with an estimated £725 million. Anil Agarwal, Vedanta Resources founder and chairman finished off third with his £370 million of wealth.

Other influential British Asians who were included in the rich list were Abdul Rashid and Aziz Tayub of the wholesale Crown Crest Group (worth £​200 million) and Shiraz Tejani of the manufacturing group LPC (£150 million). 

The combined overall net worth of top 51 millionaires in the 23015 Rich List totalled £4.37 billion, an increase of £60 million from 2014. According to Asian Media Group, the Asian business entrepreneurs increased their net worth and business profitability despite facing tough economic uncertainties in the country.

This year also saw two new British Asian entries with a combined value of £32 million debut in the Midlands category of Asian Rich List. The first entry is of Danesh and Sanjay Gadhia with Morningside Healthcare, their Leicester-based pharmaceutical wholesaler and retail chain valued at £20 million (ranking 38th). The second newbie is Manjit Pawar, director of Absolute Care Homes which provides dementia care and nursing services in the region.
